David Friedrich – Interim Head of School
Mr. Friedrich earned a B.S. in elementary education and psychology from The College of New Jersey and an M.A. in educational leadership and supervision from The University of Phoenix. He has extensive experience working in schools, including serving as an elementary school principal, assistant principal and classroom teacher across multiple grade levels. A highlight of his career was teaching English to children and adults in Taipei, Taiwan and Shenzhen, China. He leads professional development and lectures at local universities on topics including differentiated instruction, technology infusion, literacy, STEM education, and Farm to School initiatives. David is a mental health advocate for students and staff members. A dad to three wonderful children, he enjoys traveling, running, and cooking..
Kayla Sorin – Director of Student Affairs & 3rd Grade English Teacher
Ms. Sorin is passionate about education. Having taught students in grades one through eight, Ms. Sorin has vast pedagogical and content knowledge and enjoys building academic and personal connections with her students. A lifelong learner herself, Ms. Sorin has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University, an M.S.T. in Teaching Exceptional Adolescents from Fordham University, an M.A. in International Education from New York University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Education. Ms. Sorin is a mother to three young children who also call YHIS home. Ever enthralled by the natural world, if Ms. Sorin was not an educator, she would be a geologist.
Samantha Eng – Bookkeeper
Samantha has a master degree in business administration focused in accounting. While working with Deloitte, she obtained her CPA license. She was a senior accountant in a Princeton non-profit organization before starting her own business. Major clients include publishing firms, medical practices and preschools. She is excited to be part of YingHua financial team.
Jane Lu – Director of Academics and IB Coordinator
Ms. Lu graduated from National Chung-Hsing University in Taiwan with a Bachelor’s degree in history. She has also earned the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential in the U.S. She is knowledgeable about child development and has many years of teaching experience in early childhood education settings. Ms. Lu is a strong advocate of helping children to find their own interests and passion and to learn in a natural and nurturing environment. Ms. Lu has been with YHIS since 2015.

Hui Whitney Wang – Director of EYP
Ms. Wang has an Associate of Arts degree in early childhood education from Qingdao Teacher's College, China. During her 17-year tenure at a prestigious kindergarten in China, she advanced from head teacher to master teacher to vice principal, well known and loved for her professionalism and creativity. As a teacher with the longest tenure at YHIS, Ms. Wang is skilled at inquiry-based teaching and educating the whole child. Ms. Wang has been with YHIS since 2008.
Xibo Joy Zeng –Nursery Homeroom Teacher
Xibo Zeng most recently held a position as corporate secretary and co-owner for PathLights, Inc., a business consulting firm in New Jersey. She has a life long passion in teaching and making a positive difference in every children, and was a homeschool teacher for Pre-K - 6th grade students for four years. Additionally, she has been a Sunday school teacher for Pre-K to 3rd grade students since 2001 at the Harvest International Center in Somerset, NJ.
Lucy Yan – Nursery Assistant Teacher
Ms. Yan graduated from Hefei University with a BA degree in financial accounting in China. She worked in a logistics company as an accountant in NY for many years. After that, she was a US marketing and sales representative for a Chinese herb medicine company for a few years. She has 4 years of teaching experience as a Chinese teacher in Princeton Chinese Language School and received an outstanding teacher award in 2021. She has true passion for working with children and helping each child progress in all areas of their development - academic, social, language. She strongly believes a positive and supportive environment is best for students.
Jia Yang – Nursery Assistant Teacher & Visual Arts (Upper Elementary) Teacher
Ms. Yang graduated from the School of Arts and Design at Tsinghua University (Beijing) with a B.A. in Art History. She began her career as an art history instructor and homeroom teacher at an art and design school in Beijing. Ms. Yang has extensive experience in the publishing industry, having served 8 years as a graphic designer and photo editor at a Japanese language magazine published by the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration. She then worked as the editor-in-chief and vice publisher at a home decor magazine in Beijing for 10 years, having published over 150 issues and books that give readers advice on home design style, fashion, and colors. Ms. Yang transitioned to K-4 arts education when she moved to the US, specializing in teaching creative art to children. Having 30 years of experience learning and working in the field of arts and design, Ms. Yang is a certified expert color consultant and interior designer. In her free time, she enjoys exploring small towns and visiting museums.
June Chou – Pre-School Homeroom Teacher
Ms. Chou has a Bachelor’s degree in public administration from National Taipei University, Taiwan. She is an experienced teacher of Chinese, having taught and inspired students of all ages from nursery to high school. Ms. Chou is resourceful, patient, and caring, and loves to work with young children. She has been with YHIS since 2014.
Jiajing Jakila Liang – Pre-Kindergarten Homeroom Teacher
Ms. Liang graduated from Communication University of Shanxi, China, with a Bachelor’s degree in film and TV advertising. She then studied in the graduate program of early childhood education at Oxford Brookes University, England, and later on received a Master’s degree in digital media production from the same university. Ms. Liang has been teaching Mandarin Chinese since 2012 when she found teaching to be her true calling. She loves to support children and help them to navigate and master a new language through daily activities and creative play. Outside of teaching, she enjoys painting, singing, calligraphy and sports. Ms. Liang joins YHIS for the 2018 – 2019 school year.
Cathy Jin – Visual Arts (Lower Elementary), Pre-Kindergarten Associate Teacher, Middle School P.H.E. Teacher
Ms. Jin graduated from Beijing Information Management Academy, specializing in book publishing and layout design. She then studied in Nagano Foreign Language Academy in Nagano Kan, Japan while working as a Chinese teacher in this Academy. Subsequently, she worked as a layout designer for a major Chinese newspaper in Tokyo, Japan. From 2008 to 2015, Ms. Jin taught art classes in YHIS. From 2009 to 2020, she taught adult Zumba and Pilate classes and art class to children in Huaxia Plainsboro Chinese School. She loves early education and enjoys being with children every day. From 2015 to 2021, she also worked in Science Press (USA) for book inventory and management.
Yongge Wang – Kindergarten Homeroom Teacher
Ms. Wang graduated from Jilin University, Changchun, China, with a 2-year college degree in education specialized in library and information. Later on, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from Northeastern Normal University in China. Ms. Wang has more than 15 years of experience teaching mathematics to students ranging from elementary to high schools. In the U.S., she taught Chinese in after school programs for 3 years before joining YHIS. She loves children and is especially passionate about teaching math. Ms. Wang has been with YHIS since 2016.
Karen Wu – Kindergarten Associate Teacher
Ms. Wu has always had a passion for teaching, and has a demonstrated record of helping her students grow. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan, in addition to completing credits in Chinese Literature while obtaining her degree. Ms. Wu worked at the Monmouth Fidelity School for 5 years as a Chinese Language Teacher for K-2, as well as holding the position as the Children’s Culture Teacher, teaching preK-2 students a variety of Chinese Cultural lessons and activities. Ms. Wu held the position of Deputy Director of the Monmouth County Chinese Summer Camp, as well as being a teacher for 3 years. Ms. Wu brings to YingHua International School her love for teaching, her diverse teaching experience, and her willingness to work closely with students, parents and teachers to collaborate in a fun and exciting learning experience.
Jennifer Rebeiro – 1st Grade, 2nd Grade and 4th Grade English Teacher
Ms. Jennifer graduated in 2001 from Monmouth University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. She then went on to receive her M.A. degree in Elementary Education in 2006 from St. Peter's University in Jersey City, NJ. Ms. Jennifer has 7 years of teaching experience. She started her teaching career in Bergen County, NJ in the third grade classroom. Ms. Jennifer then taught at the Preschool and Pre-K levels in Monmouth County. Ms. Jennifer also tutors children K-3 in an ESL program focusing on reading and writing. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, playing the piano, and bike riding with her three children.
Ying Evelyn Zheng – 2nd Grade Homeroom Teacher, Music Teacher
Ms. Zheng has a Bachelor’s degree in music education from Shanghai Teachers College, China. She had more than 10 years of music teaching experience in elementary schools in China. Ms. Zheng has also been teaching Kindergarten Chinese at weekend community schools since 2004. Ms. Zheng connects with students deeply, and inspires them to do their best. Her expertise is to seamlessly integrating learning across multiple subjects. She has been with YHIS since 2012.
Huixian Cao – 4th Grade Homeroom Teacher
Ms. Cao holds a bachelor's degree in Chinese linguistics from Central China Normal University and a minor in English language and literature. Later, she continued studying Chinese cultures at Rutgers University's East Asian Languages and Cultures Program. Ms. Cao is dedicated to sharing her enthusiasm for the Chinese language and culture with students. She also enjoys a variety of hobbies, including piano and badminton. With rich interdisciplinary and cross-field experience, she hopes that students can experience the fun of learning and enhance the sense of accomplishment brought by their thinking ability.
You Zhou – 5th Grade Homeroom Teacher
Ms. Zhou received her bachelor’s degree in Russian and English Study from The Communication University of China in 2008, and an MA degree in Journalism from the Faculty of Economic Management at Moscow State University, Russia in 2011. She also holds a certificate in Packaging Engineering from Rutgers University. She worked as a journalist for the State Council of China from 2011 to 2012 , and as the Director of Social Media for the The Modern Bankers magazine from 2012 - 2013, before she immigrated to the US. In her spare time she volunteered multiple times as an elementary school teacher for underprivileged children in remote areas of China; she found much in common between being a teacher and a journalist, especially the necessity to express ideas accurately and vividly. She loves to teach her students not only to speak a language fluently, but also beautifully. She joined YHIS since 2019, and she has been teaching in the Weekend Program from YHIS. She is a decorated athlete in Taekwondo, plays violin, and is a fan of photography.
Miranda Liu – STEAM Teacher
Ms. Miranda Liu received a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts from Jilin Normal (Teachers) University. She holds a Chinese Teacher’s Certificate, which qualifies her to teach grades K–12. From 2014-2016, she was an employee of the New Oriental Education & Technology Group Inc (XDF), the largest education company in China. After her arrival in the United States, she was invited to be the ESL program director for the Princeton Cross-Cultural Educational Organization in 2017. As a passionate educator, she strives to inspire students to learn and believes in the advantages that multicultural teaching programs offer to students.
“Jun” Zhongjun Ge – P.E. Teacher
Mr. Ge graduated from Henan Normal University with a Bachelor’s degree in physical education with a concentration in teaching and research of gymnastics. He then taught gymnastics at the same university for 10 years. Mr. Ge went on to receive from Western Michigan University a Master’s degree in physical education with a focus on special physical education. As a U.S. Certified Men’s Coach, Mr. Ge coached the men’s team and a class of children with autism at Schafer School of Gymnastics from 2008 to 2011. He is also an experienced Chinese teacher, having taught Chinese at community-based Chinese schools including YingHua Language School in Lawrence and Fangcaodi Chinese School in Edison. Mr. Ge has been with YHIS since 2014.
Jane Huang – Middle School Homeroom Teacher
Ms. Huang holds a Bachelor’s degree in communications – public relations and a minor degree in Japanese language from Penn State University. She is now pursuing her Master of Arts for Teachers degree in Chinese at Rutgers University. While pursuing her master’s degree, she also teaches 1st to 6th grade at a local after-school Chinese program. Other than Mandarin Chinese, Ms. Huang is also proficient in Cantonese, Hakka, Japanese and Korean. She is passionate about East Asian Languages and teaching. She is also proficient in incorporating instructional technologies and contemporary educational tools to maintain a learning environment where students are actively participating and engaging in a meaningful and productive learning experience.
Burgess Ekman –Director of MYP & 5-8th Grade English and Drama Teacher
Ms. B. has been working in the field of education since 1994 with sojourns into computer training, and raising children. She has tutored, and taught in both public and private schools, focusing mainly on middle school and high school. She has experience as a Latin teacher, an English teacher and a Social Studies / History teacher. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Bryn Mawr College, and a Masters degree in Education from University of Pennsylvania. She is passionate about teaching and meeting children where they are to bring them along and increase their technical and intellectual abilities.
Nien-Tzu Nancy Wang, Ph.D. – Math Section Head, 8th Grade Math Teacher
Dr. Wang received her B.S. degree in Mathematics from Chung-Yuan Christian University in Taiwan. She then completed her Ph.D. degree in Mathematics from University of Utah. In that time period, she taught undergraduates various subjects in mathematics. Later on, she tutored high school students in SAT math. Since 2008, she taught Math at YHIS for two years and then rejoined YHIS in 2014. She developed the math curriculum for YHIS and gained the experience to teach from 1st - 8th grade. Dr. Wang loves devoting her time in improving the curriculum to keep it relevant as well as spreading her passion and knowledge in math to the students she teaches. At the end of the day, she likes to drink a cup of coffee with some dessert or snacks to unwind.
Dan Li – Middle School Design & Science, 7th Grade Math Teacher
Ms. Li has dual Bachelor's degrees in Biology Technology and English from Qingdao University, China, and a Master's degree in Cell Biology from the Beijing Normal (Teacher's) University. Ms. Li holds a Chinese Teaching Certificate from China. Before joining YHIS, Ms. Li was the head teacher, with a specialty in science and art, at both middle school and elementary school levels in a prestigious school in Beijing for three years. She has worked in YHIS since 2018 during the school day and also participated at the 2018 YHIS International Camp 2018 and the 2019 StarTalk. Ms. Li loves to engage with students, and she believes students are the center in education, while teachers are only the road builder in students' pursuit of knowledge. Outside of teaching, Ms. Li enjoys painting, playing Pipa (a Chinese instrument), calligraphy and sports.
Szue-Nien Chai – After-school Program Staff
Ms. Chai works in the after-school program and is from Malaysia. She speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malaysian/Indonesian. She has been a music educator, choir conductor, and has been an assistant to the orchestra conductor at WWP in addition to being a Sunday school teacher. She enjoys working with children, and in her free time, she enjoys traveling and meeting new people from around the world. She enjoys dancing, reading, flower arrangement and interior decorating.
